Zen for Clay

"Zen for Clay #1", Icheon
S.Korea, 2 May 2009
2 May, 5 May, 2009
performance by Lee Wen,
after Nam June Paik,
International Performance Show-Ceramic Passion,
5th World Ceramic Biennale, Icheon, S.Korea
At the first Fluxus concert, in Wiesbaden 1962, Nam June Paik interpreted La Monte Young’s Composition Nr 15 for Bob Morris (1960), to “draw a straight line and follow it” with an action called "Zen For Head". Paik dipped his head into a bucket of ink and made a line with his head on paper.
My actions pay homage to Nam June Paik and La Monte Young’s Composition by using materials which are elements of ceramics such as, water, fire and earth to “draw a straight line and follow it”.
